SEATTLE — Graphics Server Technologies, LP announced today that it was
dropping all internet server licensing requirements for its Graphics Server
6.0 and Graphics Server .NET products. This shift in policy will make it both
cheaper and less administratively burdensome to deploy Windows applications
across Internet Servers.
David Johnson, President of Graphics Server Technologies explained why the
change was made: “In the 11 years that Graphics Server has been on the
market we have allowed royalty free distribution for over 10 of those years.
We changed the model early in 2002 to require server licenses but given the
current economy and the feedback from our customers, we wanted to do the right
thing. Now, licensing Graphics Server is easy and inexpensive compared to most
other graphing components.”
An additional change to the sales model is the reduction in editions of Graphics
Server. Now, client and server versions have been merged into one low cost product,
making it easy to determine the exact product requirements for each individual
developer.
“The trend in the component industry has been to more complex and expensive
licensing. We think it has actually gone too far and our actions today will
bring relief to the Windows developer community. Anyone who takes a look at
the licensing policies of other graphing components will quickly see the value
proposition Graphics Server provides” said Mr. Johnson.
Graphics Server Technologies, LP purchased the assets of Graphics Server almost
one year ago and has since introduced Graphics Server 6.0, an upgrade of the
flagship COM product, and will be releasing Graphics Server .NET in November.
